European collaboration and the shaping of an interactive multimedia tablet

This case study looks at the design process that resulted in the world’s first colour interactive digital tablet for multimedia newspapers. NewsPad resulted from the European collaborative ESPRIT/OMI Project 9252. NewsPad is still a visionary product; in a few years such a portable digital tablet will undoubtedly become commonplace, and multimedia news will be quickly and easily accessed through it. However, as yet it is too early to determine its cost-effective performance and mass-market demand.
